Therapeutic Behavioral Services - Update to FYI 00-17

This is to provide staff with additional information regarding FYI 00-17,Therapeutic Behavioral Services.

As previously reported, Therapeutic Behavioral Services (TBS) is a short-term intensive intervention that can be integrated as one component of a comprehensive mental health services plan. TBS provides individual support for children experiencing a life crisis or, when a life crisis is imminent, who require additional support to transition from a higher to lower level of care, or prevent movement to a higher level of care.

The Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health is contracting with existing community-based and residential mental health providers to offer TBS as a mental health service. The number of programs offering TBS has expanded. The following providers are currently contracted to offer TBS:

TBS are now reimbursable as a Medi-Cal Service under the Early and Periodic Screening, Diagnosis and Treatment (EPSDT) program.
